My brain recently…

November 2, 2006 at 2:20 am (In my brain)

So, my PC that I bought in Saudi died recently, and since I do a lot of work from home I had to get it fixed, or a new one fairly quickly. Ergo, I went out and bought one. Went to TigerDirect here in Toronto and got a GateWay re-furb. Nice machine, with 250GB hard-drive, 1GB of RAM and it came with Windows XP Media. This is really a really cool version of XP that lets you make your own jukebox, really organize your pictures and videos, and it came with a TV tuner card. So, I hooked up my cable to my PC, and as I write this, I am watching CSI:Miami. So cool! Now all I need is a two-out video card, and I will be able to watch TV and work at the same time. I may never leave my home office again! Wouldn’t that be the great saviour of my brain cells!! No more leaking!!

What else is new? My brother-in-law bought us a trailer for our bikes. Really cool thing actually. He didn’t buy it brand new, but a very nice thought at any rate. He lives on E-Bay, and every second phrase is ‘when i win the lottery’, but for a brother-in-law, he is ok. He lives in Montreal so we don’t see him very much, guess that is why I like him.

There are some really stupid ads on TV, you know? That Capital ONE series. Dumb. The other one, you know, for Secret pit juice? Holy crap that is LAME! Bad thing I guess, that I got my cable hooked up to this computer. Now a whole other world has been opened up to me while I sit here.

I told you that I bought a new Mixer right? Well, got some baking planned for this weekend if I find some inspiration. If you have any requests, keep them to yourselves. I don’t do requests.

I want to get some new knives. I have some very nice, very sharp Wusthof’s right now that were given to us as an extremely generous wedding gift, but I want to get either a MAC or Global 10″ chefs knife, and maybe a nice Santoku knife. Yes, I am picky, and I like my toys. Did you know, said brother-in-law not only used my knives, but chopped carrots, and yes, he left them laying sharp to sharp in a dish drain? Some people.

My buddy BC has a photo grab-bag site that I need to get a hold of how to put pics there. I have some pretty good shots of some diving and such that I would like to share with you guys. More on that when I get a hold of him. He is into his second week as an office drone so I will have to take my time when I get it. Maybe Friday when we get to the Metro Golf Dome to work on some things.

What else. Got some comments about my Tim Hortons coffee is crap rant. hmm, two words come to mind. Bite me. It is crap and you know it.

Watching a Lowes commercial. Crap, aimed at stupid people.

Saw O’Reilly on Letterman the other night. I stick to my viewpoint that O’Reilly should be put down, or put down in the Middle of the Gaza Strip, or in Tikrit and let’s all bet on how long he would last. He is such an asshole.

Think that the FBI has sold the Unabombers cabin yet? Wonder what those guys in that Supermax prison talk about? I would love to be a fly on their wall.

I have to lose weight. 20lbs would do me. I’m not fat per se, but I have to shed a few fat cells.

I’m thinking that maybe TV on PC is a bad thing. I can’t stop watching it.

Hockey season is back. umm, hmmm, who cares? Golf season is over, and so is baseball. Those are so much better than hockey.

I love how Horatio Caine talks. His tone is hard to convey here, but somehow, someway, I will get it, and then screw with it to suit my nefarious needs. Apart from that, I like David Caruso. I liked him in NYPD Blues.

Love Frank Sinatra. That whole era of music and life. Ever think that you were supposed to be part of another era? I do all the time. Turn of the century NYC or London would be my time. Amazing time to be part of life. Would be so cool to have lived during that time of Sherlock Holmes, or Teddy Roosevelt as Chief of Police. Read two books by Caleb Carr. The Alienist and the Angel of Darkness. Great missives about NYC in and around that time.

Love to cook. Love Italian. Oddly enough, my inspirations are not Middle Eastern in origin, but South East Asian. Love that whole area for food. Of course, I love food from everywhere, but the tastes from that region are really great. Oh yes, I do love Italian. Mainly food from the south, but Italy is such a great place for matters of the gut that it doesn’t quite matter where you go.

Want to get my son a new toy that I saw recently on TV. Goes to show you that my wife and I are soul-mates as she knew what I was going to say before I said it. That is so refreshing to know as we had lost our way recently and need to find the path back. Anyhow, this toy is a piano that lets the kids play video games at the same time. They will learn piano without even knowing it. Hope he likes it because I want to get a keyboard for the house. I play, used to play, and would love for him to have some music in him. I will update you on what happens when this happens.

Want to see the new movie ‘Stranger than Fiction’. Think the premise is great, and to have Emma Thompson speaking throughout a movie is kinda cool. Love her voice.

What will happen when the Simpson’s finally go off the air? I will be bereft of good comic TV. Yes I know, Family Guy is good, but Homer and the gang keep me going.

Did you ever listen to the old radio shows? Chum-FM used to run these on Sunday nights. The Green Hornet, the Shadow, etc… How great were these shows? I miss that type of entertainment. TV and DVD have killed radio, XM and Cirius notwithstanding. Listen to Stuart MacLean on CBC Radio on Sunday mornings. Quite a treat.

Saw an actually quite compelling ad for the Canadian Armed Forces last night, and just now in fact. Quiet, focused and really very, very good. Support our Troops folks. It’s not their fault they are where they are. They are following orders. If you want to blame anyone, blame the US.

Marge is crying. Saw her in a tight bathing suit the other day on a take-off from the Fantastic Voyage. Wow! What a hottie!! She ranks right up there with Betty Rubble and Jane Jetson.

Hail to thee Kamp Krusty.

Ok, on that note I leave you with…

    Oooh, a couple things!

    1. You’re absolutely right about Tim Horton’s coffee. I don’t get what the appeal is. It’s not particularly spectacular. Dave loves to rant about this subject.

    2. Bill O’Reilly… Where to start? If I were the Hysterical Right, I would be embarrassed to see he agreed with me. As it stands, I’m not and I love watching Keith Olbermann rip into him!

    3. I suggest baking chocolate chip cookies. Not just any cookies though – the Tollhouse recipe. This is the most difficult cookie recipe to nail. Sure, you can make the cookies, but to get them perfect… I’m still working on that.

    4. David Caruso freaks me out. I cannot watch CSI: Miami. Also, why is he the only man in Miami who insists on dressing in black all the time? Isn’t that uncomfortable?
